Steps and precautions before and after installation of reverse osmosis membrane elements

Reverse osmosis is a membrane separation operation that uses pressure difference as a driving force to separate solvent from solution. When pressure is applied to the feed liquid on one side of the membrane, when the pressure exceeds its osmotic pressure, the solvent will reversely penetrate in the opposite direction of natural osmosis. There are many things to pay attention to in the steps before and after the installation of the reverse osmosis membrane element. Let's take a look at the installation steps and precautions.

1. Preparation before the installation of the reverse osmosis membrane assembly

(1) Remove the garbage, oil, and metal powder in the water supply pipe. The medicine in the piping system can be cleaned or the cleaning agent can be injected as needed.

(2) Preparation of necessary parts Take out the parts from the accessory box in the cardboard box. First confirm the auxiliary parts of the membrane element and the necessary quantity.

(3) Install the O-ring Install the O-ring on the connecting fitting. During installation, the O-ring can be lubricated with silicone grease, vaseline, etc. as needed.

(4) Inspection inside the pressure vessel Remove the end plates at both ends of the pressure vessel. Rinse the opened pressure vessel with clean water and remove the garbage or foreign matter inside the container.

(5) Install the pressure vessel end plate According to the assembly guide of the pressure vessel, install the upper end plate on the concentrated water side of the pressure vessel.

2. Installation of reverse osmosis membrane elements

(1) Take out the membrane element from the cardboard box and remove the plastic packaging bag. Please note that there is protective liquid in the membrane element, so be careful when handling.

(2) Install the brine seal ring on the membrane element. If it is installed in reverse, it will not work. Please be careful.

(3) Fill the membrane element Insert the end of the membrane element without the brine seal ring from the water supply side (upstream) of the pressure vessel in parallel, and slowly push 2/3 of the element in. At this time, be careful not to touch the edge of the pressure vessel.

(4) Install the connection plug After placing the membrane element as a whole into the pressure vessel, insert the connection joint between the elements into the element water production center pipe. Before installing the joint, apply silicone-based lubricant on the joint O-ring.

3. Inspection after filling the membrane element

(1) Confirmation of water flow: Carefully check whether the pipe fittings are connected correctly and the screws are tightened before starting the water flow test. When passing water, pay attention to letting the water pressure rise slowly.

(2) Adjust to the established water production and recovery rate. While paying close attention to the flow meters of the feed water and concentrated water, adjust to the established water production and recovery rate. If there is no pressure loss or other problems, let this operating state continue for one hour.

(3) Check the water quality of the membrane permeate: Sample the permeate water of each membrane component to check the water quality (conductivity). If there is a membrane component with abnormal water quality, it is necessary to check the O-ring, brine seal ring, etc. again and replace the defective parts.
